Employee Spotlight - Zach

This week, we are spotlighting Zach Bochanski, an engineer here at VTI. Our team is small, fast-moving, and hands-on, and Zach fits right into that mindset. With a background rooted in curiosity, creativity, and a willingness to dive into the unknown, he brings both technical perspective and a grounded approach to building systems.

Zach grew up in northern Vermont with a natural inclination toward creativity. His path into engineering took shape during an introductory programming course, where he was “mind-blown.” He was drawn to software by the idea of building with text.

At VTI, Zach is motivated by the “free rein to plan and execute flight operations, and the insane potential we deliver as a company based on our size, funding, and timeline.” He’s especially happy to work in person and collaborate closely with the team.

Looking ahead, Zach shares:

“I’m looking forward to delivering highly effective products on a budget and timeline that are actually useful now. It’s frustrating to see outdated technology fielded as ‘top-of-the-line’ to American and NATO troops. I’ve experienced it, and others continue to experience it. I don’t think it’s fair for the end operator to be at the mercy of expensive, slow-moving projects. I want to bring the same level of work ethic into this company that many people on deployments are putting in.”

Outside of work, Zach embraces Montana winters through cross-country and backcountry skiing.

His advice to aspiring engineers:

“It really depends on what direction you want to take, but I don’t regret trying things I have no idea about.”
